One of the key presentation skills that is lacking today is how to present with confidence. OK so why is this so lacking in many business preseters today?
Typical reactions you may experience when presenting without the desired confidence are nerves / butterflies, mumbling, being inaudible, dry mouth. The list is probably endless but its actually quite normal. And you might be surprised that many now confident presenters also suffered at one time from these same problems.
So what do we need to do to become more confident? what can we do to improve our presentation skills? What techniques do people use to get into a more confident state?
There are lots of different techniques you can employ. You need to try out a few to find out those that work best for you personally. Some of the more obvious ones are:
Be prepared. Know your audience, what makes them tick.Research your audience thoroughly. So that you can select the most important material in your presentation that is relevant and will be of interest.
Create a clear structure to the presentation. Keep it straightforward with a specific beginning, middle and end. And restrict your key points to three in total. This will help you stay on track and as a result make it simpler for your audience to follow.
Slow down your delivery. Don’t rush things. Take more time with your delivery. The tendency is often there to get it over with. But if you think ’slow is best’ when you begin you will then be more in control and this will give you more confidence and self assurance.
Try to use these three tips the next time you present. And as a result you should be more confident and successful.
